Answer to Question 1

The randomized subjects control-group, posttest design does not use a pretest. This is advantageous in situations where (a) a pretest is not available or is not appropriate for the subjects and (b) where there might be an interaction effect between the pretest and the independent variable. By not having a pretest, one threat to internal validity is eliminated.
