Answer to Question 1

d

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Piecework incentive plans have several advantages. They are simple to calculate and easily understood by employees. Piece rate plans appear equitable in principle, and in their incentive value, and are powerful since they tie pay directly to performance. Piecework also has disadvantages. The main one is its unsavory reputation among many employees based on some employers' habit of arbitrarily raising production standards whenever they found their workers earning excessive wages. A more subtle disadvantage is that since piece rate are quoted on a per piece basis, in workers' minds, production standards (pieces per hour) become tied inseparably to the amount of money earned. Piece rate systems thus risk engendering rigidity. When the employer tries to revise production standards, resistance ensures. Employees become preoccupied with producing the number of units needed. They can become less focused on quality and may resist switching jobs (since doing so could reduce productivity).
