Social media (SM) providers are the companies that operate the SM sites. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google are all SM providers. They provide platforms that enable the creation of social networks, or social relationships among people with common interests. They develop and operate their own custom, proprietary, social networking application software and compete with one another for the attention of users.
