Answer to Question 1

The protocols used on the Internet are arranged according to a structure known as the TCP/IP Protocol architecture, which is a scheme of five protocol types arranged in layers. Hyper Text Transport Protocol (HTTP) is the protocol used between browsers and Web servers. Browsers send requests for service encoded in a predefined HTTP request format. The server receives that request; processes that request, and formats a response in a predefined HTTP response format.
A secure version of HTTP is available called HTTPS. Whenever https is visible in a browser's address bar, a secure transmission is being used and sensitive data can be sent safely. However, on the Internet, unless HTTPS is being used, one should assume that all communications are open.
