At the beginning of an ERP project, it is difficult to know how long it will take to find the right outside consultants needed for the project. Because skilled people are in high demand, even if the right people can be found, it is most likely that they are already assigned to a project and so this may hold back the start up date. Another thing that may hold back the project is that the project team should have a dedicated single location to work in, and it should be well designed to support open communication and collaboration. In some companies this may be especially difficult to find.
