The teacher and the class of beginners partake in the reading and rereading of favorite stories, songs, and poems. Shared reading allows children to watch what a more expert reader does with text. Repeated readings are usually done with favorite stories and are a type of memory reading in which recalling and rehearsing takes place. It instills a sense of independence in children. Text needs to be predictable and repetitive so that children can easily anticipate text and join in.
