Underdelegation may often be seen by new nurses when delegating tasks and actions. This may lead to frustration and a sense of being overwhelmed if the new nurse fails to delegate properly. Some contributing factors for underdelegation are: 1) may seek approval from other staff members, hence try to do everything themselves; 2) perfectionism and refusal to allow mistakes; 3) belief and refusal to allow mistakes; and 4) failure to delegate the correct task to the correct person that goes with certain tasks. Overdelegation can also occur, which results in placing patients in jeopardy. Examples of reasons for overdelegation include: unorganized or inclined to immerse self in paperwork, and inclination to avoid responsibility.
