Answer to Question 1

A
An advantage of the primary nursing model is that patients and their families develop trusting relationships with one primary nurse. There is an identified accountability and responsibility for the nurse in developing the plan of care. The approach to care in this type of nursing is holistic, which facilitates continuity of care. This type of care costs more because there is a higher skill mix, and nurses often perform functions that could be completed by other staff. Nurse-to-patient ratios must be realistic to ensure there is enough nursing time available to meet patient care needs.

Answer to Question 2

D
