Answer to Question 1

D
IDUs represent the most rapidly growing source of new cases of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and they are the greatest risk for spread of the virus in the heterosexual com-munity. Emphasis is being placed on reduction of the transmission of this disease through con-taminated needles. Nurses should provide education on cleaning needles with bleach between uses and on needle exchange programs to decrease the spread of the virus.

Answer to Question 2

A
Interventions to initiate or maintain healthy lifestyles must be multifocal. At the broadest level of care (community), nurses work with community leaders, other community residents, and health professionals to plan programs to promote optimal health for the community and its people.
