The term evidence-based was first attributed to Gordon Gyatt, a Canadian physician at McMas-ter University in 1992. Great Britain, the United States, and Australia did not use this term be-fore it was used in Canada.

External evidence includes research and other evidence, like reports and profes-sional guidelines.
