Answer to Question 1

An ideal response will:
1, Begin by discussing the libertarian theory of the media, which argues that the media should show what the public wants, regardless of the consequences.
2, Next discuss the social responsibility theory of the media, which is based on a need to balance what the public desires and what is in the public's best interests.
3, Note that both theories have merits. Specifically, the libertarian allows citizens to drive the content of the media, thus allowing public feedback. The social responsibility model has the benefit of providing citizens with stories allowing for more informed decision making.
4, Note that each has some consequences: specifically, the libertarian model leads to profit-driven news delivery that is less substantive, while the social responsibility model is potentially elitist.
5, Provide a clearly written opinion and concise conclusion.
