Answer to Question 1

TRUE

Answer to Question 2

An ideal response will:
1, Define narrowcasting as the trend spurred by the growth of the Internet and cable television to appeal to increasingly narrow audiences.
2, Discuss how in the early days of mass media, the goal was to reach a broad audience. Inexpensive media such as the penny press and yellow journalism included sensationalistic news stories to attract a large audience.
3, Explain that media experts are concerned that narrowcasting might lead to constriction of information and perspectives, leading to the fragmentation and isolation of factions in the United States.
4, Illustrate this point by discussing the effects of Univision and Telemundo. They offer news stories with slightly different focuses than mainstream news. Because fewer Hispanics are watching mainstream English-language news programs, those networks are less likely to air programming appealing to Latinos. As a consequence, the larger English-speaking audience is less likely to be exposed to Hispanic issues or concerns.
5, Provide a clear and concise conclusion.

There can actually be a 25-hour time difference between certain locations in the world. The International Date Line passes between the islands of Samoa and American Samoa. It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.
