President Ronald Reagan set a precedent in 1986 by granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. What would be the economic and political effects of a new amnesty? Would you support such a move? Defend your position.

An ideal response will:
1, Explain the economic effects of amnesty proposals in the current settingfor example, increased tax revenues from immigrants.
2, Explain the political effects of amnesty, such as increasing the number of representatives in Congress in the border states, in addition to increasing their influence in presidential elections. Further, explain how amnesty could also create a political backlash against politicians by conservative groups in American society such as the Tea Party.
3, Explain why the student would or would not support such a move using evidence from the chapter to support the position.
4, Provide a clear and effective conclusion.
