Answer to Question 1

An ideal response will:
1, Discuss the pros and cons of coal. For example, coal is America's most abundant fuel and almost 90 percent of the country's energy deposits are in the form of coal.It currently provides half of allelectricity.Howe ver, it is a very dirty fuel that contributes to global warming and acid rain.It is also very hazardous to the health of miners.
2, Discuss the pros and cons of nuclear power. For example, it is cheaper than other forms of fuel like gasoline and heating fuel.It is a cleaner energy than coal and does not contribute to acid rain or global warning. However, it generates nuclear waste and the nation has not agreed upon a safe and environmentally friendly way to store and dispose of such waste.
3, Provide a well-reasoned and supported argument in favor of the use of one of these fuel sources over the other. The argument should address the balance between economical energy production and protection of the environment.
