Answer to Question 1

Successful male hunters are ridiculed for arrogance and bragging as a way of keeping them part of the group of men and not singled out for skill. This actually shows that the assertion of prestige is something that must be kept under control in foraging societies.

Answer to Question 2

Concepts of skill, endurance, and power (especially prestige) are found very widely across cultures in their definition of maleness. It may be linked to biology, but there is no culture in which prestige is not an issue for males.
