Answer: Using standards as a foundation makes the teacher's job easier. Teaching standards allow the new teacher to prioritize instruction as well as direct focus. They assist in initial assessment of students by providing a template for levels of student competency. Using this information, it is easier to select materials and activities to include in the classroom.

Answer: Students learn from their teachers' modelingthen they need guided opportunities to use the strategy or process with feedback and support from the teacher and other students. With this support, they can begin to use the strategy or process independently.
