Answer to Question 1

Describe interactive storybook reading and explain why it is considered to be the most effective read aloud strategy to use with young children.

During interactive storybook reading, the adult encourages children to be actively engaged with the story. The teacher pauses periodically during reading, making comments and asking children questions about the story. In addition, children are encouraged to make comments and ask their own questions about the story. This high level of child-involvement enhances children's story comprehension.

Answer to Question 2

Explain why teachers should regularly read informational books to young children.

When adults read informational books to young children, they tend to ask a greater number of cognitively challenging questions. In addition, informational books familiarize children with challenging vocabulary and build conceptual knowledge.
