Explain why oral language comprehension is more than the sum of the parts of oral language development (e.g., semantics).
Oral language comprehension requires the integration of all the primary areas of oral language development for speaking and listening with understanding. Children need to combine spoken sounds, grammar, semantics and an awareness of context to actively use their oral language comprehension in order to participate effectively in activities at home and in school.
