Researchers have concluded that literacy development begins long before children enter the first grade. Describe two examples of young children do that might have lead researchers to this conclusion.

a. Children recognize environmental print (Cheerios, McDonald's, the word STOP on stop signs) very early.
b. Children begin to scribble and expect print to be meaningful.
c. Children read books that have been read to them often by telling the story using reading intonation.
