Upon further questioning, an elderly man who expressed apprehension about his upcoming coronary artery bypass surgery admitted that he had a friend who had coronary artery bypass surgery a few years ago and had many complications postoperatively.

Although this surgery has become almost routine in large hospitals, it still poses some dangers. The chances of recovery are good, but they are not as good for elderly persons as for younger ones.
