Some medications need to be continued in spite of a patient's NPO status; these should be identified by the team and continued. Other medications can be temporarily held without significant risk to the patient. It would be inaccurate to assure the wife that all the husband's medications will continue, that they will be unnecessary, or that they will all be held.
