Answer to Question 1

F
Of new prescriptions given to older adults, 50 do not have their desired therapeutic response because of too low a dose, too high a dose, not getting the prescription filled, or noncompliance with the medication regimen. Physicians frequently do not make adjustments to the dosages of medications for older adults that are needed because of age-related changes in the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of drugs. Older adults must also be counseled on the importance of getting the prescription filled and taking it according to the instructions they are given.

Answer to Question 2

T
Many older adults experience chronic dehydration, which results in lower blood volume. Lower blood volume decreases the distribution of drugs throughout the body, causing decreased absorption.
