Answer to Question 1

ANSWER: True

Answer to Question 2

ANSWER: An avalanche will occur if there is a weak layer in the snow. This isnt likely to happen in a ski area on a packed trail, but it could happen in back-country skiing, or on a slope above the ski area. I should avoid skiing outside of official trails. A change in conditions can be a factor in an avalanche, so if the temperature changed to melt or refreeze snow, one should be aware that the danger is increased. This would also be true if it rained: even if youre skiing in the rain, you would be in danger in the lodge. Added load and vibrations from hikers, skiers, and snowmobiles can trigger an avalanche, but one might not notice or be able to control those. If a piece of a cornice broke off and hit the slope below it could trigger an avalanche, so one should avoid overhangs and areas below them.
