Answer to Question 1

Detrital sedimentary rocks are made from weathered fragments of preexisting rocks. The cement may be new material but otherwise the material forming them predates the formation of the rock.

Chemical sedimentary rocks are made of new materials that precipitate from solutions and form rocks for the first time.
