Answer to Question 1

Answers will vary. Effects may be direct, such as flooded property and transportation
routes; or indirect , such as interrupted communication systems and deliveries of goods
and services.

Answer to Question 2

Answers will vary. Students will probably indicate countries in Europe, North America,
and Southeast Asia that will be affected the most. The northwestern region of South
America is not as densely populated, so fewer people will be affected there.
