Trenches, the deepest parts of the ocean basins, are usually near the continents. Deep
trenches are found near Japan, South America, Alaska, in the Caribbean, in the South
Pacific, and near Sumatra.



Answer to Question 2

Answers will vary. Students may refer to the presence of wastewater treatment plants,
using river water to supplement groundwater, community outreach programs that
promote conservation, etc.
