Chemical weathering is the disintegration of rock with chemical alterations to the rock. Examples include hydration, hydrolysis, carbonation, and oxidization.

Answer to Question 2

Physical weathering is the disintegration of rock without any chemical alterations to the rock. Examples include frost wedging, salt weathering, root wedging (briefly mentioned in the chapter), and exfoliation.
