Answer to Question 1

Hurricanes are intense centers of low pressure that form over tropical oceans and are characterized by intense thunderstorm activity and strong cyclonic circulation. Sustained winds must equal or exceed 119 kilometers per hour. Hurricanes are also known as typhoons and cyclones in other parts of the world.

Answer to Question 2

The eye wall of a hurricane is the doughnut-shaped wall of intense convective activity surrounding the center of the storm where the greatest wind speeds and heaviest rainfall occur. The eye is the very center of the storm. It is a zone about 20 kilometers in diameter in which precipitation ceases and winds subside.
