The diagrams at the top of the right column show surface winds at two locations. All factors in both situations are identical except that one surface is land and the other is water. Which diagram represents winds over the land? Explain your choice.

The upper diagram shows higher wind speeds, which must be over water where there is less friction interfering with wind. The lower diagram with slower wind speeds, therefore, must be over land.
