Answer to Question 1

The transfer of heat by winds and ocean currents equalizes these latitudinal energy imbalances. Warm currents have moderating effects, keeping European winter temperatures warmer. Cold currents chill air in the summer months in the middle latitudes. Cold currents increase aridity in tropical deserts, intensifying coastal aridity.
