Plate tectonics explains the closing of ocean basins and the uplift of ocean sediments as well as the formation of nonvolcanic mountains in the deep interior of continents. Thus, ocean sediments can be laid down, the environment changes, and the old oceanic material is uplifted and compressed and caps a newly forming mountain rangeall easily explained by plate tectonics.
