Capacity is the maximum load of solid particles that a stream can carry, which is dictated by its discharge. Competence is the measure of maximum particle size that a stream can carry, which is dictated by its velocity.

Answer to Question 2

Near the headwaters is where bedrock channels are more likely foundwhere the dominant process is erosion rather than deposition.
