In part, levels of social and economic development vary so much because of uneven distributions of natural resources; local conditions that benefit or hinder agricultural production; different levels and investitures in infrastructure; and ongoing political instability. As a whole, those areas that enjoy relatively greater levels of economic development also experience higher levels of social development.
