If the United States relies on modern technology that requires rare earth minerals, then there is a possibility that the supply could be cut off as a geopolitical conflict or as an economic cartel situation. Yes, it is an issue, but if we can purchase and import China's supply, we should do so for as long as possible with an eye to replacing them if necessary.
