There are many ethnic minority groups throughout the Russian domain, including Ukrainians,
Belarussians, Armenians, and Ugric peoples. To the extreme northeast are found many Aleut
peoples. Much of the region is dominated by Eastern Orthodox Christians, but sizeable
minorities of Catholics and Protestants are found. Also increasing are Muslims. Both the Kalmyk
and Buryat peoples are Buddhists; they are found mostly in the Russian interior.
