Answer to Question 1

Many Sub-Saharan African countries are recipients of large amounts of foreign aid, for some states it accounts for more than 20 of GNI. Many argue, though, that the real growth needs to be in foreign direct investment, which has grown substantially in the last 10 years. Most of this FDI, however, goes to countries that have major mineral and oil resources. China has played an increasingly important role in investing in the region, but many are concerned that it is primarily to secure natural resources it needs for its own development and industrialization. Not all such investments pay off, howevera Chinese investment in real estate in Luanda, Angola in 2013 has yet to be occupied as the cost of the apartments far exceeded the local population's financial means.
