In general, those countries that have high levels of female illiteracy also have high levels of infant and child mortality; high levels of povertyas indicated by low measures of GDP and GNI per capita; and shorter life expectancies. One conclusion that may be drawn is that countries that discriminate against women are generally under-developed and fare more poorly.
