The components in the model of human memory include: 1) memory storessensory memory, working memory, and long-term memory. These are repositories that hold information as we organize it in an attempt to make sense of it and store it for further use; 2) cognitive processesattention, perception, rehearsal, encoding and retrieval. These processes move information from one memory store to another; and 3) metacognitionthe cognitive mechanism we have for monitoring and regulating both the storage of information and how the information is moved from one store to another.
