Guidelines we can use to capitalize on the instructional variables to increase students' motivation to learn include the following: (1) Begin learning activities with experiences that attract students' attention, such as beginning learning activities by displaying an eye-catching example or asking an intriguing question; 2) personalizing topics by linking them to students' lives, such as linking the history of the students' neighborhood to the name of their school; 3) involving students, such as developing lessons with questioning and using group work where appropriate.
