Answer to Question 1

Vog is volcanic smog. The name was coined by residents of Hawaii who have been breathing it since
Kilauea began erupting in 1983. The volcano releases a lot of carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide, the
latter of which produces a haze and unpleasant sulfur odor. Vog may have long-term health risks.

Answer to Question 2

Some volcanic eruptions are explosive, and they blow a lot of material outward. Entire mountains may
mostly disappear in a large eruption, and natural landscapes, human infrastructure, and lives can be
destroyed in an eruption.
