Answer to Question 1

Strike is the direction of a line formed by the intersection of a horizontal plane and an inclined plane.
Using a compass, a strike line's orientation is determined with respect to north. Dip is a measure of an
inclined plane's deviation from the horizontal. It is measured at right angles to the strike direction

Answer to Question 2

The principle of original horizontality states that sediments accumulate in horizontal or nearly
horizontal layers. For rock layers to be steeply inclined, they must have been deposited horizontally,
been lithified, and then tilted to their present position
