A terminal moraine is an accumulation of glacial debris that marks the farthest point of advance of a
glacier. Recessional moraines form by similar processes but mark the stepwise retreat of a glacier.
They can form as the result of a state of temporary equilibrium or of temporary advan



Answer to Question 2

Part of each winter's snowfall remains unmelted and is buried by the snowfall of the next winter and so
on. Burial of snow, in this manner, brings about compression due to the weight of overlying layers,
and this ultimately produces a granular form of snow called firn. Continued compression drives out
trapped air and recrystallizes the firn into a dense mass of crystals known as glacial ice.
