Soil erosion is part of the problem, but other important factors include urbanization and conversion to
other uses. Urbanization has taken some of the best soil in the U.S. out of production and is likely to
continue to do so



Answer to Question 2

It prevents the negative effects of runoff, such as rill and sheet erosion. Both soil and water are
conserved
