The south pole has much more ice than the north pole. Antarctica hosts 90 of Earths present ice
supply. The reason for this is that the south pole is covered by a large continent. This large land mass
prevents the warming effect of ocean currents to take place. At the north pole ocean currents bring
warmer waters from the south

Although the crust is compositionally different from the asthenosphere, the main difference between
the lower part of the lithosphere and the asthenosphere is the physical state of the two. The lithosphere
is comparatively rigid, while the asthenosphere is plastic, undergoing cohesive ductile flow. The
boundary between the two marks a transition from brittle-elastic conditions above to plastic (ductile)
below.
