Answer to Question 1

Answer: Erosion from valley glaciers transforms stream valleys into glacial troughs. In the case of fjords, the mountain valleys are near the coast. Glaciers erode their beds below sea level, and when the glaciers retreat, seawater flows in to submerge the valley. After the glaciation and subsequent sea level rise, the trough is further submerged.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Proglacial lakes form along glacial margins from meltwater coming off an ice sheet. Pluvial lakes form from rainwater collecting in a basin during a cooler, more moist climate.
