Answer to Question 1

Answer: Both will involve convergent plate boundaries. With an accretionary wedge, sediments will be scraped off the subducting plate and build up along the margin between the plates, wedging them apart. However, with subduction erosion, the sediments are not accumulating in a wedge. They are transported into the mantle on the subducting plate.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Sediments settle on the shallow ocean floor. This oceanic plate is subducting beneath a continental plate, which scrapes off the sediments to create a wedge.
