Answer to Question 1

Alluvial fans contain sediment derived from weathering and erosion of nearby uplands, whereas outwash streams carry sediment eroded from the large area eroded by the glacier. So, the sediment grain types will be much more heterogeneous in outwash than in alluvial-fan sediments.

Answer to Question 2

The Milankovitch cycles cause alternating periods of cold climate (ice ages) and warm climate at time intervals that can be calculated on the basis of astronomical measurements. These time intervals of predicted climate fluctuation correspond with the periodic variations of oxygen-isotope ratios in marine micro-organisms that track fluctuating glacial-ice volume. The correlation of the periodicity of ice ages with the Milankovitch cycles shows a connection whereby the Milankovitch cycles impact climate to produce ice ages.
