Why are the Andes forming to the east of the plate boundary instead of right along the boundary itself?

Block B is less dense because it floats higher in the water. Less dense blocks project higher above the water line than more dense blocks. This is because the pressure at the base of the blocks must be the same as the pressure in the water at the same depth.
