Answer to Question 1

The focus is the location of an earthquake within Earth. The epicenter is the point on the surface directly above the focus.

Answer to Question 2

Because magma moves up from below and is younger than everything it intrudes, it can be lower than rocks it intrudes. When a sill or pluton intrudes into its country rock, it's younger than the rocks that were present on top.
