Answer to Question 1

ANS: B
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) does not, in and of itself, cause an increase in systemic vascular resistance. Cardiogenic pulmonary edema and lung collapse will decrease sys-temic vascular resistance. Hypovolemia will cause an increase in systemic vascular resistance due to stimulation of the baroreceptor reflex.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
The normal values for the hemodynamic parameters in this question are: Cardiac index (CI) = 2.5-4 L/min/m2, mixed venous oxygen content (CO2) = 15 vol, mean arterial pressure (MPAP) = 10-20 mm Hg, and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) =100-250 dyne  sec  cm5. The value that is not within normal limits is the CO2.

Fatal fungal infections may be able to resist newer antifungal drugs. Globally, fungal infections are often fatal due to the lack of access to multiple antifungals, which may be required to be utilized in combination. Single antifungals may not be enough to stop a fungal infection from causing the death of a patient.
